The 5th semester students on the Bachelor of Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme are probably not going to experience the future KEA Campus. However, if they eventually return they may see their own fingerprint on elements of the building.

It was a bit dusty and dark on the first floor of the construction site in Guldbergsgade, but the visions were clear when students recently presented their ideas and proposals for the buildings of the future KEA Campus. For a whole semester the students had been working on the future KEA Campus.

The proposals were indeed visionary and although they might be relatively expensive to execute, the proposals has truly made a mark on the directors of KEA. Jesper Rasmussen, Director of Resources at KEA, especially likes the idea of an inner frame and the exterior façade elements:

"I think they made some great proposals, the façade solution and the inside stairs is especially intriguing. Also, the entrance to the bike cellar and the entrance hall as a public space is interesting. We are inspired to take some of their ideas a further step within the framework of the prospect, economy and building regulations", says Jesper Rasmussen, Director of Resources. He is not the only person who was impressed.

"The proposal for the Knowledge Center made by one of the groups has a good potential with its open forms. Also the design proposals shows in varied and intelligent ways how to solve the ongoing challenges of climate and environment", says Steen Kildesgaard, Director of Education.

Collaborative learning across borders
Students working with the KEA Campus as a semester assignment have gained a lot of experience and knowledge throughout the process. The international students from the BATCM programme tell that the cross border collaboration with interior design students from Germany brought a creative atmosphere to the group:

"We were bouncing ideas off of each other, which created synergies. It's interesting to work together with another field of study. Something we will also meet in the future job market. Also, we experienced how different we are - even though we come from different educational background and nationalities we have complimented each other in the project. Despite the long and sometimes tiresome process in the end I think we have managed to do a good project", says Andrei Ducu Predescu, an international student from Romania. Dovydas Kunsmonas, an international student from Lithuania, adds:

"It's great to work on something that in the end is all about making KEA a great place to be".

Next semester the construction students are heading off on internships. When they return, the KEA Campus will be a small step closer in coming to life in ways that they helped to envision.
