Do you want to design and program web applications?

Important information about international programmes at KEA
KEA no longer admits new full degree students to English-taught programmes (the so-called international lines). New intakes only take place at the Danish lines. Current students who are already part of an international line can of course complete their education at KEA.
We also welcome exchange students from partner universities, just as we are sending out students on studies abroad.
As a Web Developer, you will learn how to undertake the process of designing and constructing web applications in projects of all sizes. You will be working creatively with coding and creating realistic projects while you improve your programming skills to a professional level.
Upon graduation, you will typically work in development departments of companies or in large consulting or software companies in the area of web applications. Examples of electives: Mobile Platforms and Web Security. The electives can change from semester to semester in order to be aligned with trends in the industry.
Programme content and structure
On the Web Development programme you will learn to manage the entire process of designing and building applications for the web in projects of all sizes. You will work creatively with coding and implementing real projects, while also developing your skills to a professional level.
The Bachelor’s degree in Web Development is a 1½ year top-up programme (equivalent to 90 ECTS). The programme consists of three semesters.
During the course of your studies you will be in close contact with the business community and you will, for example, write papers in cooperation with a business. You will also be an intern in a business in which you can try out your competencies in practice. We cooperate with a large number of businesses.
Courses
The programme consists of the following courses:
-
Web Programming (front-end and back-end)
This module is currently based on HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, and PHP. Depending on the semester students built an application based on the mentioned technology.
-
Databases
The module focuses on learning how to design and develop relational databases and document based databases.
-
Interface design
The connection between functionality and design, enabling rich client-side interaction through the use of design techniques and principles.
-
Development Environments
Selection of technology stacks to meet the requirements of complex web applications and the management of quality processes to ensure high availability and maintainability.
-
Electives
In addition to the mandatory parts of the programme, two subjects are offered each semester from the electives package, which you, depending on the combination of subjects, can specialise within, for example:
- Project Management
- Quality Assurance
- Mobile Platforms
- Advanced Media Technologies
Internship
10 week internship at a company of the student’s choice, where there will be further opportunity to develop the skills needed in the industry and apply theory to practice. During the internship, one of the lecturers will function as mentor for the student, and the student will produce a set of learning goals and an internship diary.
Your internship advisor at KEA will help you with any practical questions concerning your internship with a host company which you must find yourself.
Final exam project
This exam is an individual exam project. The project should conclude in a written report which will be presented orally. As far as possible, the exam is conducted in cooperation with a company. The student should be able to convert theory and strategical thinking into working tactical solution suggestions.

Students at KEA can find more information about their programme at MyKEA (mit.kea.dk/en). MyKEA is our intranet for students, where you can find information about internship, the social life at KEA, contact information for study counsellors and the study administration and much more.
Study form
When you study web development, you will participate in an intense learning environment.
You will spend your days in our newly renovated premises that are specially designed for this form of study. There are work stations and meeting facilities where you can work on projects alone, with your fellow students on Web development or perhaps together with the building's other education, Computer Science. Together you will produce products and concepts like in a bureau.
There are also lectures where you will receive tuition in the theory and methodology of the subject. The teachers will also coach you in your projects.
In this way, the tuition and practical work will be integrated.
What does it take to study at KEA?
Studying is not just about attending lectures and classes and taking part in the teaching activities. The active enrolment model shows you what is expected of you as a student at KEA.
The study programmes at KEA are full-time programmes, which means that you should expect to have to devote an average of about 42 hours a week to your studies. The hours are split between various activities such as teaching activities and preparation time.
